The Dawn of War series is based on the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop miniature wargame first produced by Games Workshop in 1987. When considering the extensive history that the franchise has to offer, we often hear from interested newcomers: “Where do I begin?”

This blog post will help you get started discovering the grimdark world of Warhammer 40,000! Ready? Here we go!

In the grim future of the 41st Millennium, Mankind teeters upon the brink of extinction. The galaxy-spanning Imperium of Man, beset on all sides by ravening aliens, foul traitors and Warp-spawned Daemons, looks once more to stave off the encroaching darkness. The endless bloodshed. There is no time for peace. No respite. No forgiveness. There is only war.

In the northern Segmentum of Imperial space, Captain Gabriel Angelos of the Blood Ravens 3rd Company endeavors to defend the planet Tartarus from an unrelenting horde of Orks. It is revealed that the Eldar of the Craftworld Biel-tan are also operating on Tartarus, just as evidence of Chaos meddling is discovered. Mortal enemies, the Eldar and Chaos forces clash as Captain Angelos and the Blood Ravens seek to discover the secrets of Tartarus’ history.
