Spotlight: Army Customization

With a month to go before you dive into Dawn of War III, it’s time to talk customization.

In this post, we’ll cover some of the ways you can style your army from the smallest Gretchin to the mighty Morkanaut. Sure, it may be what’s inside that counts, but remember – we’re talking about the last thing your enemies see before being crushed under your immense power. This is serious stuff!

Our single-player campaign focuses on the violent clash of three well-known armies of the 40K universe: the Blood Ravens chapter of Space Marines, the Eldar of Biel-Tan, and the Bad Moons Orks. But don’t worry, we’re not going to force an allegiance upon you; once you hit multiplayer, you’ll be able to fight in the name of dozens of known Chapters, Craftworlds, and clans, and even create your own.

Meet the Army Painter. Whether you’re coming down off the excitement of your latest victory, or you’re pulling yourself together after a crushing defeat, this feature lets you explore the creative side of building an army. Select your line units to see them in exquisite detail, and re-skin your army using more than 50 presets from the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Take up the charge as the Dark Angels, embrace your fate fighting for Craftworld Ulthwé, or command dem gitz of the Blood Axes. The choice is yours!

While some follow in the footsteps of great warriors, others pave their own path. The Army Painter will let you do that too with thousands of different paint combinations for you to create a custom army look. You’ll be able to see these paints come to life on your line units, but when selected, the paint scheme will apply to your buildings, and even your Elites. Story heroes will adopt your colours in more subtle ways, but you’ll see your work of art in all its glory on fearsome Wraithknights and many others!

But that’s not all we have in store for you. Each Elite hero will unlock a mastery skin as it gains experience, and levels up between missions and matches. From Kill Team Ironmaw to the iconic Phoenix Lord Jain Zar, these cosmetic changes will show enemies and allies alike the results of the time your heroes have logged in battle – a sign of what’s to come when they meet in combat.

And remember, our Masters of War Skin Pack is still available for free as part of all Dawn of War III pre-orders! Get your order in today to pick up these imposing skins for the each faction’s Super Walker Elites – the Dark Queen skin for Lady Solaria, the Ghost Seer skin for Farseer Taldeer, and the Big Kustom skin for Beauty.

This should give you a taste of what’s to come of the many ways you can bring the army of your dreams to life, in-game. We can’t wait to see your creations – so long as we’re fighting for the same side…
